The World Cup is over, the Premier League season is return imminently and the January transfer window is just over a week away from opening.
With that in mind we are analysing the most likely moves to take shape in the New Year.
It is still early days but we do have a good idea of exactly what some clubs are looking for and where they might turn.
So here’s a run down of five of the best big transfers to look out for…
Liverpool – Sofyan Amrabat
There is still some work to be done here but it is one we need to take somewhat seriously. We have not been expecting too much activity from Liverpool but a central midfielder is possible given the weaknesses they have suffered so far and Amrabat could make a great fix.
This is not a sudden interest based on his great World Cup with Morocco, either. Liverpool have admired him for a while. When they last enquired, it was understood to be about the possibility of a loan, but that is out of the question now with Fiorentina in a position where they could ask up to £40m for him.
Sources say the player would see the transfer as a no-brainer if it opens up but there is still a little work to be done.
Man Utd – Cody Gakpo
Yes, we have heard this one a few times before. But the player is already convinced of the idea of joining Manchester United and so we wait for the financial details to fall into place.
Gakpo has an understanding of Erik Ten Hag and what he is trying to achieve at United, where he has impressed with his coaching methods.
