Gazzetta – Man Utd will press to finally sign £39million World Cup star

Manchester United will return to action tonight in the Carabao Cup against Burnley. The Red Devils will have one eye on the January transfer window as well.

Erik ten Hag needs to strengthen the squad to push for Champions League qualification and reports suggest that they are looking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

As per today’s version of La Gazzetta Dello Sport (news image provided below), Man Utd want to replace the legendary Portuguese superstar and they have three players in sight.

The Italian news source have mentioned that the Old Trafford outfit are targeting Cody Gakpo, Goncalo Ramos and Christian Pulisic. Our focus is on the Dutch international.

Gazzetta claim Man Utd will press to strengthen Ten Hag’s team by signing Gakpo, who is valued at around 45 million euros (£39million).

Based on the performances last season, he was named the Dutch Player of the Year. This season, before the World Cup, the young playmaker directly contributed in 30 goals for PSV Eindhoven.

In Qatar, he scored the opening goal in every group game for the Netherlands and helped the team qualify for the quarter finals. So, the £39million valuation should be considered as a massive bargain.

In the last eight, Louis van Gaal’s men were eliminated from the competition on penalties by Argentina, who went on to lift the trophy last weekend.

It is stated that Man United’s priority is to qualify for the next season’s Champions League and for that, they will push to reinforce the squad in January.

Unfortunately, Jadon Sancho has been a massive flop since moving to Old Trafford and therefore, Man Utd need to sign a top quality left winger, who can also play through the center, in the form of Cody Gakpo. What do you think?
