Atletico Madrid offered £52.5 million by Manchester United for France forward Antoine Griezmann

Manchester United have offered Atletico Madrid £52.5 million for France international Antoine Griezmann, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The 31-year-old is attracting interest from several top clubs around Europe after his performances at the 2022 World Cup. The forward’s versatility to play in an attacking midfield role makes him a compelling player for any team.

France made it to the final of the prestigious tournament in Qatar. Griezmann was one of Didier Deschamps’ best players as they looked to get their hands on the golden trophy for the second consecutive time.

However, Les Bleus lost to Argentina in the final. The 31-year-old started the game against the South Americans. However, he was unable to make an impact in the match before being substituted.

The forward made his way back to the Madrid-based club in the summer of 2021 after having left Los Rojiblancos for Barcelona in 2019. Griezmann was unable to stamp his authority in Catalunya during his time there.

However, since returning to Atletico, the Frenchman has struggled to replicate his previous form. The 31-year-old has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists.

United recently lost Cristiano Ronaldo. The 37-year-old departed the club just before the start of the World Cup. As a result, the Red Devils’ options up front have dwindled.

Anthony Martial is the only natural striker in the squad at the moment, while Marcus Rashford can also play up top. However, the 25-year-old leaves a lot to be desired in the striker position.
