Manchester United could strike a deal with PSV Eindhoven for the services of Netherlands international Cody Gakpo in January, as Erik ten Hag looks to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, journalist Pete O’Rourkehas told GiveMeSport.

The forward has been on World Cup duty with Louis van Gaal’s Oranje squad this winter, helping the side reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Man Utd transfer news – Cody Gakpo

Manchester United have received a boost in their bid to add Gakpo to their squad in January, with PSV director of football Marcel Brands admitting to the Dutch side’s supporters club talk show Eeuwig Trouw that the Eredivisie club are preparing to let the forward leave in January.

He said: “The agreements that were made were there before my time. Amounts have not been discussed, but if the right club comes that Cody would like to go.”

The Sun reported earlier this month that PSV are set to demand £50m from any potential suitors of the 23-year-old next month, with the club set to maximise his value after a strong showing at the World Cup.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has recently toldGiveMeSport that the Red Devils are hopeful of agreeing on a deal and luring the Dutch superstar to Old Trafford next month.

And O’Rourke believes that a deal between United and PSV could take place in January as long as ten Hag’s side are willing to pay the Eredivisie side’s asking price.

What has O’Rourke said about Man Utd and Gakpo?

O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “Ten Hag does want to bring in a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo and if a deal can be struck with Cody Gakpo, you’d imagine that deal could happen in January as long as Manchester United meet PSV’s asking price.”
