Man Utd transfer news – Cody Gakpo
Speaking to Bernabeu Digital, Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer has said that Manchester United currently have the advantage over Real Madrid in the race to sign Gakpo.
Ten Hag will currently be looking for another forward option at Old Trafford after the Red Devils were left with no choice but to terminate the contract of Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal star’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
According to The Sun, Gakpo’s is valued at around £50m after impressing at the World Cup for van Gaal’s side and helping play a crucial role in the side reaching the quarter-finals.
Jones has previously told GiveMeSportthat United had a free run at getting a deal for the PSV star over the line in the summer, but the club will now have to pay a premium and compete with other clubs in the race for his signature in January.
However, the same journalist has now suggested that Gakpo could consider Old Trafford “the right place for him” due to the fact he will be managed by ten Hag who will know a lot about his career up to now, having watched him first-hand during his time as Ajax manager in the Eredivisie.
What has Jones said about Man Utd and Gakpo?
Jones told GiveMeSport: “I guess with somebody like ten Hag who knows a lot about his career up to this point, it might give him a bit more faith that it could be the right place for him.”
