Man United’have contacted’player again over transfer, player about to make a’lightning change’

Man United want Yann Sommer to replace David de Gea as their number one goalkeeper.

Erik ten Hag has a specific way of playing. A style that’s entirely different to his predecessor. That requires different players.

One man who has come in for stick due to his (lack of) stylistic fit is David de Gea. The Spaniard is a brilliant goalkeeper within his own right – though the inability to play out from the back is a concern.

The number one himself is seemingly keen on remaining a Red Devil as he’s willing to take a pay cut to stay at Old Trafford.

However, German reports, namely from Bild, think United have other ideas. Apparently, a move for Yann Sommer is on the agenda.

The Borussia Monchengladbach man has been linked with a United transfer previously, with Bild stating that Sommer is about to make a ‘lightning change’ – presumably a January transfer.

United ‘have contacted’ the player again over a transfer, with the Red Devils wanting Sommer to replace De Gea, whose contract will not be extended according to the German media outlet.

Sommer, although older than De Gea, is infinitely better than his Spanish counterpart with the ball at feet – which is undoubtedly the key factor in this decision.

Simply put, what you’d lose in shot-stopping ability, you’d regain in the ability to keep possession and pass it out from defence.

Look, Ten Hag has given us no reason not to trust him when it comes to making transfers. Thus far, the Dutchman has been perfect in that aspect of being a manager, so until that changes, we have to fully back him.

Losing De Gea would hurt, but he’s on big wages and I can absolutely see why it’d make sense, in the long run, to move him on at this point in time.
