A week ago, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo, who explained Manchester United are in the picture to sign Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi.
It was also stated the La Liga side are aware of the threat they face from England for the midfielder.
This is backed up by AS on Friday, who claim that Manchester United join Barcelona in the chase for the 23-year-old. They add the Red Devils are a ‘new entrant’ in the transfer race.
The Spain international signed an extension in October and his new contract lasts until 2027, and includes a €60m release clause. The renewal has not put off the Catalan club as they continue to be named as a suitor.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag’s side want to strengthen their midfield by adding La Real’s star to their squad as they believe he will do well alongside Casemiro, according to the report.
Manchester United faced Real Sociedad twice in the Europa League this campaign and Zubimendi featured in both ties. The English club were able to watch him live in action and collected reports on him.
AS’s title claims ‘United willing to pay Zubimendi’s clause’. Within the report, it’s explained the Premier League side ‘would be studying the possibility of paying’ the €60m release clause to take him away from the Spanish club.
At Real Sociedad, the report states they are not aware of Manchester United’s interest and have not received any call for Zubimendi so far.
La Real assure they are calm and believe the player’s recent renewal has shown his commitment to continue ‘much longer’ with the club.
All of that may change if there is a formal offer or one of the interested clubs decide to trigger Zubimendi’s clause.
