Manchester United need €50m+ bonuses for January signing – ‘Simply cannot say no’ to big offer in January

PSV Eindhoven will only sit down with Manchester United to discuss a deal for Cody Gakpo if they offer €50m as a starting point.

That’s according to Voetbal International, who say the Dutch side simply won’t negotiate for a figure beneath that in January.

Gakpo is again being heavily linked with a move from PSV after a summer that saw him targeted by several sides in Europe, including Manchester United.

They were keen at the beginning of the summer window but instead decided to spend their money elsewhere, mainly on securing a big money move for Ajax’s Antony.

They’ve remained keen, though, and the forwards impressive numbers this season and goalscoring form at the World Cup have only helped to increase their focus on the player.

A move in January is now being mooted and VI explain that any clubs who aren’t in the top tier simply don’t stand a chance of getting the player.

Gakpo wants to go to a ‘world superpower’ once the World Cup is done with and meetings are planned with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Unlike last summer, though, he will not be available for €40m including bonuses, with VI’s instead saying they’ve been told PSV will only listen to offers of ‘at least €50m’excluding bonuses if they are to talk about a deal.

Should such an offer arrive from one of the player’s suitors they ‘simply cannot say no’ due to the financial situation at the club and the need for money to rectify it.

That gives Manchester United their chance, but it seems it will take a sizeable offer before they can even negotiate a deal for the rising Dutch star.
