Speaking to The United Stand, Fabrizio Romano, said that Bayer Leverkusen right-back, Jeremie Frimpong has aspirations to play in the Premier League and that he would be “super excited” to join Manchester United.
After the win over West Ham at the end of last month, Erik ten Hag said that Manchester United need another right-back cover for Diogo Dalot, who has made the right-back slot his own after a number of standout performances for United this season, if Wan-Bissaka leaves.
“The development [of Dalot] is really good, but I have to mention that a club like Manchester United needs two good full-backs, because we have a lot of games to cover.”
However, with the form of Dalot, it has meant that Aaron Wan-Bissaka has lost his place in the starting line-up and as a result the former Crystal Palace man is surplus to requirements because according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florin Plenttenberg, United are happy for him to leave on loan in January.
During the summer of 2019, Wan-Bissaka was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing at United after having a breakthrough campaign with Crystal Palace in the 2018-19 season under Roy Hodgson.
Wan-Bissaka, known for his strong tackling and defensive work was an important player during Solskjaer’s time at United, however, one thing that has restricted him is his attacking limitations, even though he did show promise at times during the time he worked with Solskjaer and his coaching staff.
However, because of his attacking limitations, coupled with unfortunate injuries and illness, it has meant that the former Palace academy graduate has not been able to get much game time.
He has only made one appearance for United this season, and that was when he came on for the final four minutes in United’s in 2-1 win over Liverpool in August [Transfermarkt.com].
With United happy for Wan-Bissaka to leave on loan and despite the fact that Brandon Williams can play there or they can recall back Ethan Laird from Queens Park Rangers, it still leaves United short at right-back, so it perhaps explains why Frimpong is on United’s radar.
Romano says that it would cost United “€20m-€25m” to secure the Dutchman’s services, who is currently away with the Netherlands at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
