Manchester United had themselves an excellent summer transfer window, strengthening in multiple areas under Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils still have a long way to go in their process, with the club also now on the hunt for new investment in terms of owners. Hopefully, that won’t slow things down too much on the transfer front.
One man the club have been linked with consistently is Cody Gakpo. The Dutchman scored in his opening World Cup game earlier this week, looking like a top-quality frontman in that match.
Well, his name is back in the headlines again in regard to a United switch. It’s journalist Sebastien Denis with the latest.
He tweeted that the 23-year-old forward remains a ‘top priority’ for United in the January window. On top of that, the player has the ‘perfect profile’ to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, or possibly even Jadon Sancho, in the United attack.
In terms of transfer fee, PSV Eindhoven would demand around £52m (€60m), to let their star attacker leave in the mid-season window.
The first thing to note here is that it’s typically tough to bring in players in the mid-season window, for obvious reasons. Clubs don’t want to part with their prized asset while a campaign is still going on.
For United, though, it could play to their advantage. Not many sides buy in January either. That means less competition. Gakpo would no doubt bring something different to this attack – and United have to sign someone to replace Ronaldo.
Why not go out there and make PSV an offer they simply can’t refuse? It just makes sense…
