According to one report from the Daily Mirrorlast month, both United and Liverpool are likely to enter the race to sign Caicedo.

The likes of Chelsea, where the 21-year-old’s former boss Graham Potter is currently managing, and Newcastle United, are also thought to be interested.

Caicedo is not going to come cheap, though, with the same Daily Mirror report claiming that he could cost £85m.

Brighton only signed the Ecuadorian for £4mfrom Independiente del Valle so now look set to make a hefty profit if they do decide to sell him.

What has Vickery said about Caicedo?

Vickery is confident that Caicedo has the quality to play for any of the Premier League’s top six clubs.

When asked which one could really do with someone like him, the journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “I think any of them because he’s a class act as a midfielder and he’s involved in all the phases of play, winning the ball, setting up the play – he finds lovely little angles for his passes – and running beyond the strikers and getting shots on goal. He’s very, very impressive.”

Is Caicedo worth £85m?

Caicedo is obviously a really good player. As Vickery highlighted, one of his strengths is undoubtedly his ability to win the ball back.

As per FBref, the Ecuador international has ranked in the 86th percentile for tackles and the 84th for blocks among midfielders over the last year.

Caicedo is still so young as well, so he has time to become an even more effective ball-winner and develop into an even better player.

That being said, given the fact that he is still just 21 and has not had too many seasons in the Premier League yet, it may be a little bit early to go and fork out £85m on the Brighton man.

If United or another one of the big six are looking to bring in a new midfielder, it makes a lot of sense to consider a move for Caicedo. However, it would be a surprise if someone ended up spending over £80m on him at this stage of his career.
