Man Utd handed £65.8m ‘price tag blow’ as competition hots up for transfer ‘target’

Manchester United ended the first chunk of their season in a memorable way with a dramatic late win on Sunday.

Alejandro Garnacho scored with seconds left on the clock to secure all three points, and United head into the more than one month-long break three points behind the top four and with a game in hand to play. The win in London ensured the Red Devils go into the break with confidence, though the good vibes were soured somewhat by Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview, clips of which emerged on Sunday night.

United have recently been linked with FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. David De Gea’s future at Old Trafford is unclear ahead of his contract expiring at the end of this season, while there is no clear plan for Dean Henderson, who is out on loan.

That has led to talk of United signing a new keeper, and Costa is said to be one of the players being considered.

But according to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, there is a price problem. “I’m told there’s nothing advanced on Robert Sanchez as of now,” Romano said. “Diogo Costa has been monitored and remains appreciated by Manchester United for the future, even if he has signed new long term deal with €75m (£65.8m) release clause.”

Moukoko latest

Borussia Dortmund star Youssoufa Moukoko is another who has been linked with United, but the Red Devils are not alone in their interest.

Moukoko has been a breakout star for Dortmund, and at the age of 17, the striker is heading to the World Cup with Germany this winter. In the meantime, clubs are circling.

“There are really many clubs monitoring Youssoufa Moukoko, more than six or seven around Europe,” Romano has explained. “It’s absolutely normal as he’s a top talent, but Borussia Dortmund are still pushing to extend his contract and trying to find a way.

“The manager Edin Terzic will be a key factor to convince Moukoko.”
