Man United keeping tabs with €45m-rated Dutch defender

Man United might come back with a substantial offer for Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber if the defender has a good World Cup. The Red Devils tried their heart out, but the Netherlands international stuck to his guns and stayed defiant in his decision.

Current Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal instructed Timber to continue his development at the club or his World Cup place would be in severe doubt. Jurrien did not want to mess with his national manager and his stunt went on to be a blessing in disguise for his former teammate Lisandro Martinez, who was roped in by Erik ten Hag.

Lisandro Martinez has gone on to establish his authority with some superior displays. And his display have led to him being named in the starting lineup on a regular basis. Despite his arrival, Man United have still looked short in the defensive section and will bring at least one new defender next summer.

Varane might get fit in time for the World Cup, but questions have been asked about the long-term future of Harry Maguire. Jurrien came through Ajax’s famous youth system, and at the age of 21, he managed to attract a whole lot of teams with his brilliant football sense.

The Dutch centre-back can also be deployed on the right-hand side of the back-line and can be utilized as per the manager’s choice. Ajax won’t let him go after losing Martinez and Antony to Man United and will try to protect him at any cost.
