Manchester United interest in surprise striker option backed up – 10 goals so far this season

Last week, we covered a rather surprising story from France claiming that Manchester United were interested in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

The 33-year-old is currently having a great season at Bayern Munich, and his contract, which expires at the end of the season, makes him an attractive target for a number of clubs.

With Cristiano Ronaldo expected to leave Manchester United at the end of the campaign, a new striker will need to come in, and the idea of the Red Devils signing the Cameroon international on a free isn’t that far-fetched.

Erik ten Hag could turn to Choupo-Moting, who does know English football from a spell at Stoke City, to add experience and depth to his squad, with his current forward situation a bit thin, as shown by having to play Marcus Rashford on the right against Aston Villa.

The original news came from Media Foot, but Bild in Germany are now backing this up, looking at the forward’s situation on Sunday.

They explain that the player and his agent, Roger Wittmann, ‘want to take their time with contract talks and first wait for the World Cup’, where the Bayern star will represent Cameroon.

Then, they add that ‘in addition to Manchester United, other top clubs have also expressed an interest’, according to their own information.

The idea would be for the player to sign a ‘fat contract’ at the end of his career, and even if it’s short-term, it’s certainly Manchester United would be able to give him.

We’ll have to wait and see for now, but with 10 goals and three assists in 14 appearances for Bayern Munich this season, there’s no denying his form.
