Man United were strongly linked with Pau Torres in the summer transfer window but the defender ended up staying with Villarreal. Back in May, Man United were interested and the Yellow Submarine slapped a price tag of £45m on their prized asset.

In June, the Red Devils were prepared to offer £45m to add the 25-year-old centre-back. However, just like last year, the Spanish club managed to hold on to the Pau. As per the latest reports going on in the media, Torres could end up leaving the La Liga giants next summer.

Spain international will enter the final year of his deal next summer and the Red Devils are one of the sides that will try to take advantage of the situation. The news source have mentioned that the Red Devils will return to finally add the Spanish centre-back, who could be lured for a fee way lower than the £65m release clause.

The Spaniard was an option for the Dutch coach last summer but Erik ten Hag preferred to add Lisandro Martinez instead. Still, the Dutch manager needs to improve the central defence because the likes of Lindelof and captain, Harry Maguire, have been inconsistent.

Pau has been the leader of the Villarreal defence for some time and in the absence of Sergio Ramos, he has led the defence for Spain as well. Last night, Torres was brilliant in the UEFA Nations League game with Portugal. Spain won the contest 1-0 to advance to the finals of the tournament.
