Manchester United to extend the contract of Marcus Rashford to fend off interest from other clubs

Manchester United plan to extend the contract of Marcus Rashford before the end of the year to fend off interest from other clubs, according to The Daily Mail.

The forward, who recently turned 25 and scored his 100th goal in a red shirt, is in the final year of his existing deal. Thus, the Red Devils are looking to secure his future with the club in the coming months.

Rashford is on £200,000-a-week salary at the moment. And United will either offer him new terms or opt to trigger the option to extend his contract for a further season.

If the club do not opt to act before January, the forward will be able to negotiate with a foreign club in the winter transfer window. And over the summer, the 25-year-old’s representatives met with Paris-Saint Germain.

However, the England international prefers staying at his boyhood club. Erik ten Hag also sees him as an important player for the club going forward.

Unfortunately, with the World Cup around the corner, a new deal may have to wait until next year. But the Old Trafford side can activate the 12-month extension and secure his signature for the time being.

Rashford has been key to the way United have played in the current campaign. The England international is the club’s top goalscorer with seven in 15 appearances in all competitions.

Ten Hag has preferred the forward over Cristiano Ronaldo in the number nine position. With Anthony Martial on the sidelines for most of the season, the 25-year-old has been crucial with his contributions.
