Rangnick’s January target is Man United fan – Dreams of move to Red Devils

On Monday, Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of this season, a week after parting ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 63-year-old arrived at Old Trafford after having spent majority of his coaching career in his home country. It won’t be a surprise if the Red Devils manager decides to look at the Bundesliga, to strengthen his squad in the winter market.

Less than 24 hours after the appointment was made official, The Times reported Rangnick is considering Amadou Haidara as ‘one of the options’ for the winter market. The defensive midfielder is believed to have a £33m release clause in his RB Leipzig contract.

This is also relayed by other English outlets, with some even stating that United scouts will watch the Mali international in action against Union Berlin and Manchester City.

Last season, he scored only one goal in the Champions League and that came in Leipzig’s 3-2 win over United. The result saw the Manchester club drop down to the Europa League.

If the Premier League side were to make an approach for Haidara in January, they would have a good chance of convincing the player, because of his desire to play for United.

“My dream club is Manchester United. I will fight with all my strength to one day play for that club,”he told Foot Mali in 2019.

That was the second time he’d made his Red Devils wish clear.

Months before, he said: “I like Manchester United very much and watch as many games as possible. I dream of playing there. But at the moment I am very satisfied with RB Leipzig. Our big goal is to get into the Champions League.”

It will be interesting to see how the German press will react to the latest claims made in the English media about United’s interest in Haidara.
