Manchester United are allegedly speaking to manager Ernesto Valverde about the possibility of becoming their new interim head coach until the end of the season.

Former midfielder Michael Carrick is currently in charge of senior team affairs at Old Trafford following the Norwegian tactician Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal over the weekend.

The Red Devils are planning to appoint an interim chief for the remainder of the 2021-22 term before seeking a long-term Ole replacement, with Paris Saint-Germain leader Mauricio Pochettino said to be the favourite for the role.

According to a recent report from a British daily newspaper The Guardian, the board have spoken with the Spaniard about the role, with the 57-year-old keen on taking charge of United for the rest of the season.

The report adds that he has already started ‘sounding out’ potential stars that could be signed to boost the roster during the January transfer market.

The Spaniard, who is reportedly on a five-man wishlist for the role, has been out of work since departing the La Liga giants Barcelona last year following two and a half years in the role.

Ernensto has also managed Villarreal, Espanyol, Olympiacos, Athletic Bilbao and Valencia.
