Man United ‘interested’ in attacking midfielder – €60-70m clause is opportunity for deal

Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in RB Leipzig’s versatile attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, but will have to pay between €60-70m for him.

That’s according to SportBILD, who cover United’s interest as part of a piece on release clauses at RB Leipzig.

They explain that several of the current stars in the Leipzig first team have clauses in their contracts as a way of securing moves to big clubs in future.

The likes of Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate, Timo Werner, Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer have all secured big moves in recent years, and those still at the club want to use them as a ‘springboard’too.

Leipzig are happy to let them go if they get paid, and Szoboszlai is one of the ones who has an ‘escape option’ anchored into his contract.

According to SportBILD’s information, he can leave for between €60m and €70m, a huge profit on the £19.8m they paid to sign him from RB Salzburg in January this year.

Whether anyone is willing to pay that isn’t mentioned, but there are clubs who are keen on the 21-year-old, with Manchester United and Atlético Madrid named as his suitors.

Indeed, both were seemingly interested in the summer but refused to pay the release clause without negotiating first after COVID hit their finances.
