Manchester United’s management are targeting Zinedine Zidane as the Norwegian head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement, according to the latest reports.

The current Red Devils boss is under intense pressure following his side’s woeful run of form before the international break.

They have lost four of their last six PL matches and lifeless showings in the comprehensive defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool have led to calls for his sacking.

Several tacticians have been linked with replacing Ole at Old Trafford, including Antonio Conte, who recently joined Tottenham Hotspur, Ajax’s Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers but according to The Sunday Times, the club’s board are now making plans to bring in Zinedine.

The report states that the Frenchman is ‘unsure’ about taking the job but the management are ‘hopeful’ Zidane can be convinced by the fact two of his ex-players at Real Madrid – Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo – are already part of his roster.

He remains out of work having left Los Blancos at the end of last season. It’s said that the 49-year-old is interested in becoming the head coach of his country’s national team when Didier Deschamps leaves the position.
