Manchester United lost to Burnley 1-1 at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Wednesday, failing to build on their 4-2 triumph over Sheffield United. In the first half, both teams had numerous opportunities.
United, having the majority of the play, came near a few times when Alejandro Garnacho’s effort went over the crossbar and Bruno Fernandes struck a beautiful volley that shook the woodwork.
Andre Onana made a fantastic stop to deny Lyle Foster, while the Clarets also had some extended possession but were unable to score.Onana-Kompany Finally, Antony’s first Premier League goal of the season—a well-taken finish that he placed low and hard into the bottom corner—saw Erik ten Hag’s team break the deadlock.
But eight minutes later, Zeki Amdouni’s penalty kick allowed Burnley to tie the score. Casemiro’s mishandled header and Onana’s foul handed the Swiss attacker his 12-year-old chance, which he smashed beautifully into the bottom right corner to give Burnley a vital point.
Undoubtedly, United had a difficult game, but one of their stars in particular had a forgettable afternoon at Old Trafford. Stats of Andre Onana against Burnley Onana, United’s number 24, gave a performance that was undoubtedly inconsistent.
According to Sofascore, he made six saves total, four of which came from inside the box, including the incredible save to deny Foster. But it was a foolish mistake for the Cameroonian to foul Amdouni, who scored the penalty a few moments later. Granted, Casemiro’s shoddy clearances did not help him, but the foul was given away by a hastily tried punch that was really just a flailing of the arms.
Onana-Wan-Bissaka Other than that, Onana gave a strong performance. In his post-match assessments, Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News gave the former Ajax and Inter custodian a 6/10, calling his play up until he handed away the penalty ‘a matchwinning performance’. Onana liked to be involved in the game as usual, totaling 56 touches, surpassed only by four United players. The goalie continued to play out of the back in the long-ball fashion that he has been told to play all season.
In all, Onana completed 30/45 passes, including seven long balls. More than any other player on the pitch, he found one United teammate four times in particular. Stats of Rasmus Hojlund against Burnley This man is Rasmus Hojlund, who according to Statman Dave on X did in fact receive four passes from Onana more than any other player.
In the entire game, the Dane only had 14 touches and received no assistance at all. The number 11 for United had such a difficult afternoon that he was not even able to register a shot on goal, much less one that was on target.
Considering that Fernandes produced an astounding nine opportunities, this may come as a surprise. Additionally, Hojlund only completed three of the six passes that he attempted. Hojlund’s poor performance was brought to light by Football Insider during their post-match evaluations, when the newspaper awarded the Dane a 2/10 and claimed he was “isolated and starved of service.”Hojlund, Dara, and Oshea Hojlund has had a difficult time lately; his goal against Sheffield United last time out was his first since he scored two goals on the road against Luton on February 18. He has scored just one goal in his last ten outings for both club and country since that contest. Hojlund will try to end that run on Monday, when United travels to Crystal Palace for their next match.
The Red Devils are expecting to go on a great run and gain momentum before the big Manchester Derby confrontation at Wembley. They have a challenging run of games ahead of them, including an FA Cup Final spectacular at the conclusion of the season.
