According to reports, Manchester United wants to interfere with AS Roma’s search for Marcos Leonardo.

The Giallorossi are reportedly keeping an eye on Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo, according to sources in Italy this week. Former United boss Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his squad with a new goal scorer.

The Premier League heavyweights have reportedly entered the race and are prepared to submit an offer of 20 million euros plus 5 million in add-ons, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport (press image provided below).

In the past year, the Red Devils have over-relied on Marcus Rashford to convert chances due to a lack of diverse goal scoring options.

Raphael Varane’s late winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford was United’s lone goal in the first two games because of the Englishman’s struggles.

Last Saturday’s first-half display against Tottenham Hotspur, featuring players like Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw, was deserving of one or two goals, but Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony all missed their opportunities.

Rasmus Hojlund, a newly acquired striker, has not yet made an appearance for United as he heals from a stress fracture of the back. Regardless, he is only 20 and shouldn’t be expected to carry the load of being the sole striker for the Old Trafford team. Furthermore, it is believed that Ten Hag entered the summer hoping to add two strikers.

A move for Leonardo makes great sense in that regard. The 20-year-old Santos prospect has already made 151 appearances for the Brazilian team, but he is wise beyond his years. Defenders have been baffled by his flawless movement and certain finishing during that period as he has scored 49 goals and provided 11 assists.

His current deal with the South American team has a release clause that is set at 60 million euros (£51.5 million) and expires in December 2026.
