Ten Hag could forget Fred by sealing Man Utd move for “truly great” £27m-rated machine

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, will be hopeful that the final week of the summer transfer market is fruitful since he needs to add one or two more new players.

There have only been three summer signings in Manchester so far, and depth is required if the Dutchman has any intentions of fighting on both the domestic and European fronts.

Given the little time the manager has to work with, could he sign the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder before the end of the following week? The Red Devils have recently expressed interest in him.

Will Manchester United add any more players?

According to the French publication L’Equipe (as reported by Get Football News France), Marco Verratti’s name has recently come up, and United are interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

After spending 11 years at PSG, the Italian international appears destined to leave the French capital this summer, which may urge Ten Hag to make a move.

Verratti is presently valued at €31.1m (£27m), according to FootballTransfers, and given that he has a contract through 2026, the Dutchman may have to pay a little bit more to sign him before the deadline day.

What benefits might Marco Verratti bring to Manchester United?

Ten Hag has been actively clearing out his team in addition to bringing in a few new players.

Anthony Elanga, David De Gea, Alex Telles, and Fred are among of his most well-known exits, clearing some space in the wage budget in the process.

The manager’s decision to release the Brazilian midfielder may turn out to be the best move he makes this summer.

Even though they weren’t quite able to repay the £52 million they spent on him five years prior, it was clear that he didn’t exactly have a future under the Dutchman because he struggled to make an impact in the team the previous year.

Fred only made 12 Premier League starts, and his total Sofascore rating placed him in the worst 18 players on the team, indicating that even when given the chance, he did not perform well.

With the addition of Verratti, United could completely forget about Fred. Over the past ten years, Verratti has established himself as one of the best midfielders of his time.

In fact, the 30-year-old machine ranks in the top 6% for progressive passes (9.87) and tackles (3.2) per 90 over the past 12 months when compared to positional peers, indicating that not only would he be able to dictate the play beautifully in Ten Hag’s side, but his tenacious nature would allow him to win the ball back frequently.

His former PSG coach, Mauricio Pochettino, had praised the midfielder, saying:

He is a player with excellent game reading skills. He consistently gives us attacking possession so we can move the ball into advantageous positions and launch assaults more effectively. He might increase his efforts and create new circumstances when he is attacking. He is a truly fantastic player in my opinion.

High praise indeed, and Ten Hag will have to move quickly to bring him to Manchester, allowing him to leave Fred behind.
