Manchester United now want to sign West Ham’s ‘dream’ midfield target

Declan Rice’s replacement at West Ham United is a top priority.

To date, the Hammers have searched all the residences for a Rice replacement.

Joao Palhinha, James Ward-Prowse, Conor Gallagher, Edson Alvarez, and Youssouf Fofana are just a few names on the seemingly endless list of prospective midfield targets.

Leon Goretzka, however, has recently been the most intriguing player at the London Stadium.

Goretzka was allegedly the Hammers’ “dream” signing this summer, but it appears that deal won’t go through at this time.

However, that does not rule out the possibility that Goretzka will visit England.

The Bayern Munich star has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, and now Manchester United is reportedly very interested in signing him.

At the very least, it is intriguing to consider Goretzka playing in this Manchester United midfield.

While it’s unlikely that Bruno Fernandes or Casemiro will leave this team, the Red Devils have already signed Mason Mount this summer.

There wouldn’t be enough room for all four of United’s expected starting midfielders in Erik Ten Hag’s 4-2-3-1 formation if Goretzka were to join the team.

After qualifying for the Champions League the previous season, rotation will undoubtedly be important for United this campaign, but players like Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay already play these roles.

To put it mildly, Goretzka joining United would be a very exciting move, but, to be completely honest, it’s hard to see this one happening.

Although there is no doubt that the German is desired by a number of Premier League clubs, it would not be at all surprising if he chose to remain in the Bundesliga for the foreseeable future.
