Report: Manchester United send scouts to watch £25m-rated Barcelona teenager

According to reports, Manchester United is scouting Mikayil Faye in anticipation of a possible summer transfer window acquisition of the Barcelona defender.

The 19-year-old, who moved from Croatian team NK Kustosija to Barcelona last summer, has made 24 appearances for the Catalan team’s second squad this season, tallying three goals in the process.

Although Faye has not yet made his La Liga debut, he did not play in the team’s most recent league match against Mallorca.

The Daily Mail claims that Man United has been keeping an eye on the teenager’s performance this term and that the Red Devils may make a move when the summer transfer window opens.

According to the report, scouts from the 20-time English champions were present when Faye made his Senegalese debut on Friday by scoring a long-range goal against Gabon.

Nice and Lens are rumoured to have made proposals of about £13 million to Barcelona in January, but the interest is mounting before the summer transfer market opens.

Faye is reportedly coveted by Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, and given Barcelona’s persistent financial difficulties, it is anticipated that they will consider bids of up to £25 million for the young player.

Leverkusen is apparently posing the biggest threat to Man United’s chances of signing the defender, as the Bundesliga team is pressing for a deal.

Faye is anticipated to stay with Barcelona B’s second squad for the remainder of the season after scoring three goals in his last five league games.

Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans are both out for the remainder of the season, therefore Man United is anticipated to add a centre back this summer.

Varane, a former France international, is believed to be eager to stay with the Red Devils, but he would have to take a significant pay cut to stay with them.

The futures of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are also in doubt, and depending on the summer transfer window, Old Trafford may receive two new centre backs.

Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton is still being strongly linked to a move to Old Trafford, despite rumours that the Toffees are looking to pay almost £75 million for the defender.

A center-forward and a central midfielder are also on Man United’s summer wishlist. The team is anticipated to be active under new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s direction.
