According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United want to recruit a new left-back who is “important” as soon as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s boardroom structure is “completed.”
After Ratcliffe’s 25% ownership in United was confirmed, the team has already undergone significant adjustments. One significant development is that the businessman is taking over football operations.

That will probably cost a lot of money, but Ratcliffe is wise to surround himself with the right people to make sure that recruiting is done correctly on the pitch.
Omar Berrada, a former player for Manchester City, was appointed chief executive officer, a significant appointment considering his track record of success.
Dan Ashworth, the football director, is expected to complete his transfer from Newcastle United to Old Trafford shortly as well, according to rumours that the Red Devils have agreed to pay the North East team £21 million to get his services.
And once the major boardroom reorganisations are finished, United will start looking for new hires.
That’s according to transfer insider Romano, who affirms that after the board structure is established, a “shortlist” for a new left-back would be chosen.
“No matter what happens” with Tyrell Malacia, he says, that position will be improved.

Romano describes his profile. United is searching for
A plan to sign a new left-back in the summer transfer window has reportedly been in place for “months,” according to Romano.
It appears likely that Ratcliffe recognised it as one of the Red Devils’ primary characteristics right away.
Romano says the new addition will be a “young” asset and that he will be a “important player” for the team.
United might invest a significant amount of money in strengthening the position, even though it’s unclear who is on that list yet given that Ratcliffe appears to view it as a critical acquisition.
A new left-back is required.
This season, United has been forced to make changes at left-back.
Malacia, who was signed in 2022, hasn’t played a minute this season and didn’t exactly shine when he was available. It follows that, whether or not he becomes available, United will likely try to sign a fresh player in his role.
Victor Lindelof, a central defender by nature, has forced to step in at left-back since Luke Shaw has also been sidelined by injury this season.
Shaw can play at the centre of defence as well, so there’s a chance he may move inside if a different player is thought to be a better fit on the left when he becomes available.
