Manchester United believes that because of his opinions on the future of a failing player, Erik ten Hag is not following INEOS’s plans for the summer transfer window.
Transfer of Man Utd and manager updates
Old Trafford could see a busy summer ahead of it, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe will undoubtedly be eager to add players who can move the team in the right way.
Antonio Silva, a center-back for Benfica, is one of many players who have recently been linked to moves to United. Silva may arrive at Old Trafford this summer. Out of all the Red Devils players who have started a Premier League game this season, he has completed 92.7% of his passes in the Primeira Liga, which is only surpassed by Lisandro Martinez (93.6%), indicating that he would suit the manager’s out-of-the-back playing philosophy.
Spurs are also interested in signing highly-regarded Juventus defender Dean Huijsen, an 18-year-old who has made eight appearances in Serie A so far this season.
Chelsea’s Antonio Conte in 2017
Antonio Conte has been rumoured to take over as manager at the end of the current campaign, raising concerns about Ten Hag’s future as the Dutchman still lacks confidence in the position.
Zinedine Zidane, a Frenchman who won three Champions League titles during a legendary stint at Real Madrid, is also being considered by United. Ratcliffe is rumoured to view Zidane as his main aim. Julian Nagelsmann, the 36-year-old manager of Germany, is seen as the front-runner to take over and lead the team into the future. Nagelsmann will leave his current position this summer following Euro 2024.
Ten Hag and INEOS are at odds over Antony.
Football Insider reports that Ten Hag, in contrast to INEOS, who wants Antony to depart this summer, still believes that the player has a future at Manchester United.
Ten-Hag Antony Man United Premier League
“Sources have told Football Insider that Erik ten Hag is still a huge fan of Brazillian winger Antony, who plays for Man United. Ten Hag remains unwavering in his support of the 24-year-old in spite of his subpar 2023–24 campaign performances. Big recruitment plans are in place at Old Trafford as a result of INEOS’ recent investment, but the Dutchman is still confident that Antony can make the team.
Ten Hag and INEOS already appear to be at odds, which is not good news for the manager because, if things go on as they are, there will only be one loser.
Although it’s encouraging to see the manager still believe in Antony—he was deemed “outstanding” during his time as manager at Ajax—it makes perfect sense to let him go this summer. This is due to the Brazilian’s persistent lack of output, as seen by the fact that in 20 Premier League games this season, he has not registered a single goal or assist.

To put things into perspective, he has fewer goal contributions in the league than even defense-minded player Aaron Wan-Bissaka (1).
That is a terrible return for an attacking player, and even though Antony is still a young player, more is expected of him now that he is older. United should take the loss on the £85 million they paid for him by cashing in on him and signing a better successor.
