Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has an unclear future at Old Trafford. Dan Ashworth, the Red Devils’ senior director of football objective, does not see himself as a “long-term” option for the team, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority stakeholder, concurs.
Although Ten Hag should be OK until the conclusion of the season, there’s no assurance that he’ll be in the dugout when the 2024–2025 season begins. Some of the team’s performances, as well as its early Champions League elimination, have been deemed “unacceptable” by Ashworth and Ratcliffe.
Man Utd should be sorry for acquiring Ten Hag, who cost £10 million in just six months.
This season at Manchester United, the midfielder has not fared well.
As his team won five straight games across all competitions, there were some indications that the Dutchman was starting to turn things around. However, on Saturday, they lost 2-1 at home to Fulham in the Premier League, which put an end to their momentum.
Nagelsmann is leading the race for the Man Utd job
Ratcliffe has now reportedly made the decision that he wants to “revitalise” the squad by appointing a new manager, according to sources from Spain. The ‘dominant contender’ for the position is Julian Nagelsmann, whose contract with Germany expires after this summer’s European Championships.

The German is leading the pack and has apparently been considering the role since the summer of last year. Now, he perceives a chance to “make the jump” before Ten Hag’s most likely exit. Although Nagelsmann is undoubtedly the front-runner, Thomas Tuchel, who is scheduled to depart Bayern Munich at the conclusion of the season, is also interested in the position.
It’s possible that Bayern erred when they fired Nagelsmann.
Sports journalist Jonny Bentley called Nagelsmann a “outstanding tactical mind,” and after taking over as the Hoffenheim manager in 2016 while still in his 20s, he amassed an extremely good resume.
Following a successful few months leading them to survival in the Bundesliga, he supervised a remarkable rise to fourth place in the 2016–17 season and third place the following year as they made their first-ever trip to the Champions League group stages.
It was just a matter of time until he advanced farther in the game, and in 2019 RB Leipzig was the team that signed him. In his debut season, he led Die Roten Bullen to third place, but even more spectacularly, they advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals before falling to Paris Saint-Germain. The next season, he finished runner-up in both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal, just missing out on his first piece of hardware.

Then came his opportunity to play at the top level with Bayern, which didn’t go as planned. In addition to winning the Bundesliga in 2021–2022, his team was eliminated from Europe in the quarterfinals by Villarreal. Due to the possibility of losing to Borussia Dortmund in the 2022–2023 title match, Bayern’s management made the sudden decision to end the team in March.
In retrospect, it seems like a bad call, particularly since the Bavarians are still vying for a triple after making it to the DFB-Pokal and Champions League round of eight. In fact, even if Tuchel managed to steal the championship from Dortmund, he has given Bayer Leverkusen a significant advantage this season, and he will be leaving with Nagelsmann in the summer.
The United target will undoubtedly be driven to repair his reputation, beginning at the Euros before probably making a comeback to the local game, believing that he has matured from his failure at the Allianz Arena.
