Prior to the summer transfer window, Man United has its sights set on Ross Barkley, a midfielder for Luton Town.
Strange transfer rumours occasionally surface and they seem to make some sense. Initially, I disapproved of the idea of this transaction occurring when I learned that Ross Barkley and Manchester United were being linked.
Nevertheless, the more you consider it, the more sense it makes.
The claim belongs to The Sun. They published the story on Saturday night, claiming that United is planning a “shock” bid to capture the 30-year-old midfielder, who is now employed by Luton Town.
Barkley has had a career makeover with The Hatters, contributing significantly to their attempt to survive in the Premier League. Over the course of a lengthy career that has frequently been full of promise, it’s the finest I’ve ever seen the Englishman perform.
Barkley’s former Nice teammate Sir Dave Brailsford and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are reportedly “huge fans” of the footballer, with whom they collaborated throughout Barkley’s tenure in France.
The former Everton player is playing brilliantly right now, and Barkley is now considered a “surprise and cheap” addition to the United “wanted list.”
Barkley is likely to move on this summer if Luton Town fails to succeed despite his best efforts; the Old Trafford team is reportedly in the running to sign the 33-cap England international.
Based on what Barkley has shown us this season, United could likely do worse as a backup option. He is a capable replacement who could handle any position in the midfield. I think he may be a good alternative for someone like Christian Eriksen, and the fact that he might be reasonably inexpensive is an added advantage.
When I initially heard the report, I was worried, but the more I consider it, the more sense there seems to be for this potential deal.
