In the summer transfer window, Manchester United might have the chance to finally sign Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

According to the news image below from today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish champions want the midfielder to stay within “viable salary parameters” and extend his contract.

Three months have passed since the player received the offer of a contract renewal, but the Blaugrana are hoping for a quick decision.

If De Jong chooses not to sign a contract, Barca will ask for £85 million (100 million euros) in order to sell him in the upcoming window.

The Nou Camp team thinks there is a market for the 26-year-old, particularly in the Premier League, where teams like Chelsea and Manchester United would be prepared to “pay a lot of money” to sign him.

Barcelona is hoping that Manchester City will show more interest in the former Ajax player after Guardiola unsuccessfully tried to entice him in 2019.

Football Insider has disclosed in another article that the Red Devils and the Blues are in a strong position to acquire De Jong from the La Liga powerhouses, who will have to sell star players in order to make room for new recruits.

The Dutch international and Ten Hag were supposed to play together for Man Utd and Barca two years ago, but Ten Hag chose to remain with the five-time European champions.

Should Manchester United spend £85 million to finally sign Frenkie de Jong, in your opinion?
