Rather than waiting for attacker Facundo Pellistri to flourish in Europe and increase in value, Manchester United paid £9 million to sign him from Uruguayan club Penarol in 2020.
Pellistri was loaned to the Spanish team Alaves during the first transfer window following his arrival in Manchester. He would play football there for eighteen months before going back to United.
United Ten Hag Premier League Pellistri Man
Pellistri left Old Trafford after a season and a half, temporarily joining Granada in La Liga in January. At 22, it’s uncertain if he’ll stay at Erik ten Hag’s side or if they’ll try to sell him later on for a profit.
Despite Pellistri’s somewhat lacklustre influence, United has continued to scout the South American market and is currently in the running to recruit a promising Brazilian player.
Man United fights Chelsea and Man City for the Thalys
Man Utd has entered the running to recruit Palmeiras’ Thalys, according to reports from the Italian publication Calciomercato. In a matchup against European powerhouses like Barcelona, Juventus, and PSG as well as Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea, the Red Devils are looking to prevail.
France’s Kephren-Thuram
Thalys has a price tag of up to €40 million (about £34 million) from Palmeiras, however they would be open to a smaller amount provided they are certain of a strong sell-on clause.
“Immense” Thalys may travel to Europe with Endrick.
Since joining Palmeiras in 2021, Thalys, a left-footed center-forward who can also play as an inverted right flank and second striker, has passed every test he has been put through. He is 18 years old.
In his first two seasons with the under-17s, he scored fifteen goals, including seven during his team’s journey to the Brazilian Cup championship. He also received Player of the Tournament at the FAM Cup.
He played for Palmeiras under-19 in the famous CEE Cup in the Czech Republic in 2022, and after scoring three goals, he was awarded the tournament’s best player once more.
Eight goals for the under-20 team have already been scored, two of which came in the Copa Libertadores, a continental competition. In October, he signed a new contract that will keep him playing until 2026.
Though he hasn’t played for a first team, under-23 scout Antonio Mango called him “immense.” Despite this, he is already fetching a high cost, which puts Palmeiras in a strong position. Maybe this year, he’ll make the transition to the first team, and he’ll follow in Endrick’s footsteps—the latter is set to sign with Real Madrid in July.
