According to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Manchester United has apparently been given the chance to sign Hugo Ekitike of Paris Saint-Germain before the end of current winter transfer season.
Following some standout performances for Stade de Reims, several major European teams expressed interest in the 21-year-old. According to reports, Newcastle United was even interested in signing the child. However, in the end, he decided to transfer to the Parc des Princes Stadium on a loan agreement back in 2022. Last summer, the agreement was made permanent for a cost of about £24 million.
But since joining Les Parisiens, the forward has had difficulty playing consistently for the first team, and it looks that Ekitike wants to leave the French city in order to play more frequently and further his career.
Man Utd has reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign the Frenchman before tomorrow’s deadline, according to Tavolieri’s claim. The player’s entourage has reportedly begun to scour the market to assist his client in finding a new home.
It would be fascinating to watch if the Red Devils decide to take a more serious stance in trying to capture the striker towards the end of this winter transfer season.
Man Utd to Ekitike
It has previously been reported that Erik ten Hag intended to bolster the forward position in January by signing a new striker. Nevertheless, after spending more than £150 million in the summer, Man Utd supposedly lacks the funds to make significant purchases this season. Ten Hag has previously made indications that the Red Devils might not complete any business before the deadline.
But Ten Hag’s sole striker option now is Rasmus Hojlund, as Anthony Martial is expected to stay out of action for several weeks due to a groyne operation. Marcus Rashford has previously stated that he doesn’t like to play centre striker, despite the fact that he can fill that role if necessary.
Thus, before tomorrow’s deadline, it would be wise to recruit a new striker, and Ekitike might be a great choice. It will be intriguing to watch, though, if the all-time Premier League winners decide to make a serious move to recruit the PSG player.
