It’s currently reported that Manchester United is interested in signing a midfield player who would suit Kobbie Mainoo perfectly.
At Manchester United, the midfield issue has been problematic for far too long. Numerous seasoned professionals have come and gone without having a significant impact on the squad.
However, Erik ten Hag has discovered a winning recipe this season in the form of 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo; all he needs to do now is team him up with an equally talented partner.
United seems to be prioritising this, as evidenced by their recent connections to players like Morten Hjulmand.
The likelihood that Sofyan Amrabat’s loan would not be extended has further increased the desire to add a midfield player.
Manchester United is after Youssouf Fofana once more.
United appears to have come back upon Frenchman Youssouf Fofana, who is now playing for Monaco, in their search for a midfield player.
This is in line with claims from TeamTalk that the Frenchman is once again a possibility for United.
This follows rumours from the summer suggesting that Fofana was one of United’s midfield possibilities.
Mainoo would benefit from Fofana’s true tenacity in the Old Trafford midfield since it would allow him more freedom to be an attacking player instead of having to play the relentless defensive shifts he’s been forced to play lately.
What is to be expected from Fofana, United?
Former defender Olivier Bernard recently gave the following description of the type of player Fofana is, speaking to the BBC:
“Youssouf Fofana is a box-to-box attacking midfielder who focuses more on work rate than creativity.” Because of his intense ball defence and constant desire to win possession of the ball, we sometimes liken him to N’Golo Kante.
United has been interested in Kante for a long time—as recently as 2022—so signing a carbon copy shouldn’t be laughed at because there’s a good likelihood that United will be eager.
And for just £26 million, he might be an incredible value for Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
