On deadline day, Scott McTominay of Manchester United allegedly “said no” to Fulham in an attempt by Marco Silva’s team to replace Joao Pahlinha.
Throughout the summer transfer season, McTominay was frequently linked to a move away from Old Trafford, with West Ham and Bayern Munich being touted as possible destinations.
Bayern Munich was browsing for a new center-midfield player when they came upon the Scotland international.
Joao Pahlinha of Fulham was ultimately pursued by Thomas Tuchel’s team, and at one point it appeared like the transfer might be completed before Friday’s deadline.
Pahlinha “completed two parts of his medical tests and documents were ready,” according to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano, but Fulham “didn’t find a player” to replace him, which is why the trade fell through.
Romano told Caught Offside, “It was an incredible Friday at Bayern Munich, especially with the remarkable details of the Joao Palhinha deal collapsing.”
“We saw some bizarre things happen in Munich, at Bayern’s headquarters, and with the player, who was taken aback by what was happening. Palhinha felt certain he was joining Bayern because he had finished both of his medical exams, his contract was ready, all of the paperwork was in order, and he was appearing at media events wearing a Bayern shirt.
Palhinha’s transfer to Bayern was completed in every way, but Fulham required a replacement player. The transfer market was shutting in Germany at that time, so they had to finish this by 6 p.m., but Fulham was unable to find a player by then.
Additionally, McTominay turned down a transfer to Fulham after the Premier League team “spoke to the midfielder,” according to Romano.
However, they made an attempt to sign Youssouf Fofana and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, among other players. But they were unable to come to a consensus,” Romano continued.
And now for the pivotal moment in our tale: Scott McTominay. The Manchester United midfielder was reportedly approached by Fulham as well, but he turned them out. Thus, the failure of the Palhinha agreement was caused by Fulham’s inability to locate a substitute.
Though Bayern only made the approach on Deadline Day, Thomas Tuchel had been pressing for the defensive midfield player for a while, and he was not pleased with the current state of affairs. Palhinha was taken aback.
As a result, Tuchel had a lot of difficulty with this scenario because the player was really depressed and frustrated. This was very amazing, and we’ll have to wait and see what it means for Palhinha’s future at Fulham. He had to return to London after receiving a message from Fulham.
