Man United could land amazing Pavard alternative in move for “ambitious” £43m “rock”

Before the transfer window shuts, Manchester United is still looking to add defensive reinforcements, and a new development has been made regarding the club’s pursuit of a potential target.

Harry Maguire is he leaving Manchester United?

West Ham United and Man United reached an agreement for the former club captain to leave Old Trafford this summer, but the Hammers dropped out of the deal earlier this week because personal conditions were not reached in a timely manner.

Unless another option to trade for the 30-year-old within the final two weeks of the window arises, Maguire will continue in his extremely limited position under Erik ten Hag this season.

Despite this, the Red Devils might still be looking for a defender.

This summer, Man United is reportedly interested in signing OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to the French publication Nice-Matin (via Sport Witness).

According to the source, the Red Devils are looking into alternative ways to increase their transfer budget after a deal for Maguire to a different team fell through this week. They are still interested in signing Todibo as they seek to strengthen their defensive presence.

Would Todibo make a suitable substitute for Maguire?

Due to the arrangement for Maguire’s departure, Man United had begun negotiating a deal for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, but the Bundesliga powerhouses have consistently objected despite the player having agreed to personal terms in the potential sale.

However, it is more likely that Pavard will stay in Germany given Bayern’s reluctance to let go of their center-back after a deal to recruit Kyle Walker from Manchester City fell through.

Thus, in the closing days and weeks of the window, Ten Hag may now focus on Todibo, and the Nice titan might be the ideal replacement for Pavard.

The Frenchman, whose rumoured asking price is up to €50 million (£43 million), recorded an 89% pass completion percentage during 34 Ligue 1 appearances last season. He also finished 78% of his dribbles successfully and won 65% of all of his duels, demonstrating his dominance on the pitch.

Additionally, Todibo has received great acclaim from Aaron Ramsey, a former Nice teammate, who waxed lyrical about Todibo’s abilities and strengths last season:

“Jean-Clair is a very interesting character; he’s very confident and he’s a great guy around the dressing room. And he’s a very, very talented player, who can go all the way to the top.”

There is no reason why he can’t represent France at the highest level because he is a fantastic player, a great person, and very ambitious.

The 23-year-old “rock” – as scout Jacek Kulig dubbed him – shared many similarities with his compatriot in a number of key attributes, such as pass completion rate (88.5% v. 88.3%), percentage of dribblers tackled (73.2% v. 75%), and aerial duels won (57.4% v. 66%), as per FBref.

Todibo’s acquisition would give Ten Hag a wonderful chance to improve the calibre and youth of the Man United defence as he pursues his goal of creating a strong and prosperous squad for the future.
