21yo star now ‘prefers to join’ Man Utd over Liverpool in case of exit

Ryan Gravenberch, a midfielder for Bayern Munich, told Foot Mercato that if he were to leave the German champions, he would rather play for Manchester United than Liverpool.

In the summer of 2022, the Dutchman transferred from Ajax to the Bundesliga champions. During his first season with the club, he played just 937 minutes in all competitions.

Following the German Super Cup last weekend, the 21-year-old was not used as a substitute, and according to Foot Mercato, United and Liverpool have’reactivated their track’.

Although there hasn’t been a formal offer, the teenage midfielder “prefers to join” United in the event of a transfer.

The desire of Gravenberch to join United is predictable

During his tenure at Ajax, the Dutch international was one of the most sought-after young midfielders. Erik ten Hag, his manager, gave him his first start.

Due to a lack of consistent playing time, the midfielder has been unable to match his performance with Bayern. He didn’t play for 600 minutes in the German Bundesliga last year.

It’s unlikely that his circumstances will get better this year. He is presently battling with Konrad Laimer, Leon Goretzka, and Joshua Kimmich for the two midfield places.

Kimmich is manager Thomas Tuchel’s indisputable starter. For the other starting position, the German head coach will probably select between Goretzka and Laimer.

Gravenberch might now be able to leave through the exit door, but Bayern won’t make it simple.

The transfer window will close in just over two weeks, so the Bayern giants might demand a high price or a loan agreement with a buy-back clause.

Whether United can currently afford the Dutchman is unknown. Before they can pursue his transfer from Bayern, they could need to lose at least one more midfield player.

We are not shocked that Gravenberch is apparently open to joining United. In his early years, Ten Hag was very influential. After Andre Onana, there might be another get-together.
