Dean Jones, a transfer insider, claims that for Manchester United to successfully complete a “unbelievable” deal to acquire Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this window, it would currently take “a bit of a miracle.”
This summer, where might Harry Kane wind up?
The Guardian reports that Tottenham majority owner Joe Lewis has spoken to chairman Daniel Levy and informed him that England international Harry Kane cannot run his £200k-a-week contract down in north London. This may prompt Manchester United to rekindle their interest in Kane this summer.
Kane is rumoured to be worth around £100 million, but he also has a new contract offer from Tottenham on the table that he has yet to accept.
According to Football Insider, if Kane must leave Tottenham, Manchester United are his top choice, but Bayern Munich will make a third offer worth close to £100 million after seeing its first two bids rejected by the Lilywhites.
Kane is reportedly motivated in part by the chance to play in the Premier League as he strives to surpass Alan Shearer’s all-time goalscoring mark to choose Old Trafford over other offers.
Despite Tottenham’s unsuccessful season last year, Kane put on an incredible performance, scoring 32 goals and dishing out five assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, according to Transfermarkt.
Journalist Jones believes it would be unusual for Kane to sign with Manchester United this summer, according to Football FanCast.
I’m just very, very sceptical about this one, Jones said to FFC. Even though Kane is available, his price to United is higher than it is for anyone else in the world. It truly has the air of a story that has been planted to raise a narrative. No way, no how will Spurs want him to go there. I completely agree that it does not make sense to lose a £100 million asset for nothing in a year, but I can also see why Spurs believe that having Kane on their team for another season is priceless.
How much would someone be willing to pay to have Kane for a year and ensure 25 to 30 goals? In essence, that is what Spurs currently possess, and something of that magnitude is extremely valuable. Therefore, you must use that to negate the fact that they will lose money on Kane. If Kane were to join United, it would be an unbelievable story, but it will take a bit of a miracle right now.
What happens to Manchester United now?
As Erik Ten Hag looks to bolster his frontline, Manchester United has already focused on another striker target in the form of Atalanta’s rising star Rasmus Hojlund.
Despite their interest, the Red Devils are reportedly adamant that they won’t spend more than £60 million because of ‘tight financial restrictions’, according to Telegraph Sport.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport and The Daily Mail, Manchester United is also nearing a $22 million agreement to acquire Sofyan Amrabat, a defensive midfielder for Fiorentina.
According to talkSPORT, veteran defender Jonny Evans, who initially signed a short-term contract to play in the Red Devils’ preseason, may also receive a longer contract.
