According to rumours, Manchester United has made a signing offer to RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.
What recent news regarding transfers at Man United?
In preparation for his second season as manager at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag has already made additions to his team this summer. Chelsea’s Mason Mount arrived first, and custodian Andre Onana of Inter Milan has since joined the midfielder. Old Trafford officials have spent around £100 million on the two deals, but it appears that the team will keep splashing the cash.
Rasmus Hojlund’s transfer from Atalanta is now moving forward, according to Fabrizio Romano, who claimed on Saturday that a deal worth €70 million had been reached.
Here we go: Rasmus Hojlund to Manchester United! Agreement has just been reached with Atlanta.
“Package will be about €70 million with add-ons; clubs are preparing documents in the next 24 hours. Ten days ago, Hojlund signed a five-year contract because he only wanted Manchester United.
However, despite prior rumours that he was very close to joining neighbours Manchester City, a move for Gvardiol could also be in the works alongside Hojlund.
Paisley Gates reported in the past 48 hours that three additional Premier League clubs are interested in signing Gvardiol in addition to Man City.
Man United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are thought to have all made offers for the defender, who they regard as a valuable asset. Gvardiol’s asking price from RB Leipzig is €100 million (£86 million), but it’s said that City are still the front-runners to sign the center-back.
Josko Gvardiol: How good is he?
Over the past two years, Gvardiol has experienced a meteoric rise, with his Transfermarkt valuation surging from €16 million to a career-high €75 million.
Although Gvardiol is only 21 years old, there still seems to be room for improvement. Based on a performance against Man City last season, pundit Owen Hargreaves predicts that Gvardiol will one day be “the best center-back in the world.”
“He [Gvardiol] is, in my opinion, the best. He has the potential to one day be the world’s best centre back. He has gained a lot of knowledge today and probably wouldn’t mind joining this team rather than competing against them.
Gvardiol has made 87 appearances for Leipzig since leaving Dinamo Zagreb in 2021. He is primarily a center-back but can also play left-back, demonstrating the versatility he would bring to Ten Hag’s backline. Journalist Ryan Taylor referred to him as a “gladiator” during the World Cup in Qatar.
It makes sense that United might be looking for a new defender as well, given the rumours swirling around Harry Maguire’s future at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have already rejected a bid from West Ham for the centre back, but if he eventually leaves, a replacement who can compete with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez may be required, especially with Champions League play returning to Old Trafford.
Gvardiol would accomplish that goal, but with three Premier League rivals vying for his services, a transfer may be difficult to complete.
