According to a recent transfer update, Manchester United is reportedly getting close to signing midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina this summer.
Sofyan Amrabat, who is she?
The 26-year-old moved to his present team from Club Brugge back in 2020, and since then, he has played an important role, appearing 107 times, mostly at the base of the midfield.
Amrabat first caught the attention of the general footballing public during the 2022 World Cup, where he distinguished himself as a key player for a Morocco team that defied all expectations to get to the semifinals. He made all seven of his country’s starts, establishing out as one of the competition’s top midfielders and averaged 2.3 tackles per game.
However, given that his current deal with Fiorentina expires the next year, it’s possible that the Moroccan is now leaning towards leaving the club in the summer. As a result, it looks that the Serie A team has one more chance to sign him for a decent price before he leaves on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.
Amrabat has been linked to United on several occasions recently, and a new development may indicate that a deal is getting closer.

The Red Devils are close to signing the midfielder, according to Gazzetta dello Sport [via The Daily Mail]. An agreement is reportedly getting closer.
Instead, they signed Marcel Sabitzer on a loan, but the Austrian left Old Trafford soon after, and the club is still interested in Amrabat. This summer, a £22 million deal with add-ons has been discussed, with the Morocco star being brought in as someone who can significantly improve Uinted’s midfield options.
Amrabat, who was praised as a “superstar” by journalist Thomas Mlambo, was so brilliant during the World Cup, demonstrating to be a gigantic physical presence and generating non-stop energy, so he may be a terrific signing for the Reds.
With Casemiro reaching the age of 31, United may view the addition of the Fiorentina enforcer as a wise decision, allowing for more rotation in that position and keeping the veteran Brazilian player fresh in the process, particularly with Champions League football to take into consideration next season.
Given his experience playing for his country on the biggest stage last year, Amrabat could immediately improve both Scott McTominay and Fred. Although the two current United players are capable on occasion, Old Trafford may feel the need for improvement if Erik ten Hag’s team is to step up a gear in 2023–24.
Amrabat appears to be at the pinnacle of his abilities with a career-high Transfermarkt valuation, and the opportunity to join arguably one of the biggest teams in world football will hopefully be too great to pass up. It seems like a signing that makes so much sense.
Luke Shaw and Amrabat even have the same agency, and it appears that the two will soon be partners for the Red Devils.
