Man Utd ‘close in’ on third signing as striker talks are revealed amid imminent Onana signing

In light of the impending arrival of Andre Onana, sources claim that Man Utd and Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund are getting closer to a deal.

According to Laurie Whitwell and Mario Cortegana in The Athletic, the Red Devils have already acquired Mason Mount from Chelsea this summer and are close to acquiring Onana from Inter Milan in a deal of €55 million.

Erik ten Hag is frantically trying to find a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who departed the team back in November, but Man Utd are still lacking a new striker, who has always been their top summer goal.

Ronaldo’s time at Old Trafford came to an end after a contentious interview with Piers Morgan, but Manchester United momentarily put a bandage on the wound by signing Wout Weghorst on loan.

But with Hojlund flourishing this season for club and country, it appears that he has become their top priority to help relieve Marcus Rashford of the goal-scoring pressure.

Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail briefly discusses Manchester United’s pursuit of Hojlund, reporting that the Red Devils are ‘coming close on a deal’ for the 20-year-old.

Another rumour from the Daily Mail claims that Man Utd will ‘start up talks’ over a deal for Hojlund ‘this week’ and that they now ‘have a little more in their budget to throw at the transaction’ after purchasing Onana for a reasonable amount.

On his YouTube channel, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano provided an update on a potential Hojlund transaction, writing: “It’s time to prepare the opening formal bid for Rasmus Hojlund. Atalanta wants something like €70 million, according to what I’ve heard from Man Utd’s internal discussions regarding the proposal.

Romano has reassured Man Utd supporters that a deal for Onana is “done” and that he will become the team’s second signing of the summer despite their being no official announcement.

“Andre Onana to Manchester United is done, there is a full agreement, and right now the clubs are just preparing all the paperwork,” Romano stated in his Caught Offside column. Personal terms have been agreed upon, and in reality, they were decided upon a very long time ago. We are simply waiting for the documents to be signed.

According to sources, Onana could not possibly have refused Manchester United. Onana was very content at Inter, where he had a fantastic season the previous year and was content with his teammates and city life. However, when Erik ten Hag contacted him, it was impossible for him to pass up the opportunity to play for Manchester United, compete in the Premier League, and work under a manager who is familiar with his strengths.

“It was the ideal combination, which is why he chose to sign a five-year contract with a one-year option.

Onana is moving to Manchester United, but it may take a few more days for the news to be officially revealed and for us to see him wearing the club’s jersey.

“I can also say that Onana attracted the curiosity of two other clubs this summer. Even if the David de Gea scenario wasn’t always easy for United, they ultimately opted to go all-in on Onana because they believe he can be their custodian both now and for a very long time to come.

The present and future are important. For this reason, they also wish to add a skilled backup custodian to Onana. Because Dean Henderson is anticipated to join Nottingham Forest, while a permanent deal is still being considered, Zion Suzuki might be an alternative.

To obtain £100 million for transfers, Man United will sell up to 13 players.
