Rasmus Hojlund is “absolutely on”, according to transfers expert Fabrizio Romano, but Manchester United wants to finish “everything on the player side” before making a formal offer.
Rasmus Hojlund is expected to join Manchester United.
For the supporters of United this summer, the good news just keeps coming. The club may be focusing on a new number nine in the form of Danish international, Hojlund, after completing the £55 million deal for full-time England international Mason Mount and learning that a deal to sign Inter Milan’s Andre Onana is almost complete.
The 6’3″ titan made his Serie A debut for Atalanta last season and has since drawn interest from clubs all over Europe, including the Red Devils.
According to The Guardian, Erik ten Hag’s team has now focused on the 20-year-old striker, who will cost them roughly €70 million (£60 million).
Ligue 1 champions and French Giants Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing the player, according to Fabrizio Romano, so the three-time European champions may want to move quickly if they are interested in him.
But according to the Italian transfer expert, United are on track to submit a bid fairly soon. On his YouTube channel, he gave a situational explanation and stated:
“It will be time to concentrate on the striker after Onana. I informed you that Man United never made a formal offer for Rasmus Hojlund. They want to finish up everything on the player end before launching official bids at Atalanta.
They had discussions with Atalanta about including some players in the deal, but Atalanta insisted that they were only interested in the money. This could be a reasonable asking price for Rasmus Hojlund, which is around €70 million (£60 million).
“Let’s wait and see when Man United makes the first offer. At this time, Atalanta does not want to consider involving a player. They demand a lot of money.
“A deal between Hojlund and Manchester United is definitely on, but it is still early on.”
Rasmus Hojlund: How good is he?
A player with only 32 appearances in a top-five league has received a lot of hype and excitement, but is it justified?
He had a stellar debut season for Atalanta last year, making just 20 starts but contributing to nine goals and two assists while averaging a match rating of 6.67, according to WhoScored.
His supporting statistics provide a fuller picture of the player by demonstrating that his recent success is not at all accidental and that, given the chance, he would probably replicate his performance for a top team.
The Danish “monster” sits in the top 1% for progressive passes received, the top 7% for touches in the opposition’s penalty area, the top 16% for non-penalty expected goals, the top 17% for successful take-ons, and the top 25% for progressive carries, all per 90. This information comes from FBref, who compare players in a similar position across Europe’s top five leagues.
Rafael Toloi, his captain, expressed his admiration for him as follows on GOAL:
Hojlund has great talent, is physically fit, and moves quickly. He is working with the proper team and coach, and he has everything he needs to succeed.
With the likelihood of Onana’s arrival increasing, the addition of Hojlund would transform United into one of the league’s most formidable teams. Perhaps Ten Hag is closer than previously believed to restoring the heyday.
