Ten Hag could secure Mount’s dream partner with Man Utd move for “underrated” £26m gem

As it now appears that Sofyan Amrabat is prepared to leave the Serie A club for greener pastures this summer, Erik ten Hag’s pursuit of the Fiorentina midfielder has gained momentum.

For how much will Manchester United have to pay Sofyan Amrabat?

The midfielder has requested to leave the team, according to the Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (via Man United News). He wants to transfer abroad and advance his career.

Fiorentina had reportedly lowered their asking price from €35 million (£30 million) to €30 million (£ 26 million). Given that United’s budget for this transfer window is £100 million, according to The Athletic, without accounting for player sales, signing Amrabat for the aforementioned sum could be a wise move on the part of the club.

The Moroccan international established a strong working relationship with Ten Hag while they were both at Dutch club FC Utrecht, which may make it easier for him to fit in at the Red Devils should he go to the Premier League.

Amrabat could prefer a move to La Liga, however the Spanish powerhouse Barcelona is also interested in acquiring him this transfer window.

Sofyan Amrabat might help Manchester United, though.

Amrabat showed off his superb passing ability for the Viola last season, ranking second on the team for accurate passes made per game (45), second for accurate long balls made per game (4.6), and sixth for tackles made per game (1.3). He also tried to win the ball back frequently, which might help him form a strong partnership with Mason Mount the following season.

The Englishman could thrive playing ahead of the 26-year-old, who will regularly find him with his strong passing skills and will also be able to sweep up anything that gets through Mount, giving the former Chelsea starlet much more freedom. The Englishman will likely play in an attacking midfield slot for United.

Further highlighting how effective he is at passing the ball around, the player ranks in the top 8% of Europe’s top five leagues for progressive passes made per 90 minutes (7.93) and pass completion percentage made per 90 minutes (88.8%). Amrabat may be the ideal addition for Ten Hag, who wants his players to be excellent with the ball in their hands and maintain possession.

When compared to other midfielders in the top five European leagues, Sofyan Amrabat Mount ranks in the top 4% for receiving progressive passes, which will allow him to frequently steal the ball from the Moroccan and work his magic higher up the pitch. He has already contributed to 111 goals in his senior career and will be hoping to add many more for the Old Trafford team.

After his performance in the Europa Conference League final against West Ham United in May, journalist Muhammad Butt praised Amrabat as “criminally underrated,” and given their shared history with Ten Hag and his affordable price tag, the Dutchman should have no trouble making a move for him this summer.

In doing so, the former Ajax manager appeared to find Mount the ideal midfield partner.
