Top target: Man United keen on move for “unbelievable warrior”; Ten Hag knows him well

According to a source, Manchester United has selected Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina as one of their top summer targets due to Erik ten Hag’s strong bond with the midfielder.

Who is Man Utd acquiring this summer?

Mason Mount has already strengthened Man United’s midfield after agreeing to a five-year contract worth £55 million, but Ten Hag might not want to stop there.

The Red Devils are apparently “looking at” acquiring Amrabat from Fiorentina, and their efforts to recruit the midfielder have recently gained momentum as the Italian club is now prepared to approve his summer transfer.

The door is open for United to move now that the Serie A team is getting close to acquiring Morten Hjulmand of Denmark, who could fill in for the Moroccan midfielder. There has now been another update on United’s interest.

Sport Witness, via Firenze Viola, now claims that the Fiorentina star is emerging as a top target for Man United, with his current club anticipating a bid in the neighbourhood of €30 million (£26 million).

Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus, and teams from Saudi Arabia are among the teams rumoured to be interested in signing the 26-year-old, so there may be stiff competition for his services.

Nothing “concrete” has been forthcoming from any of the parties involved up to this time, and it is believed that earlier claims that United had struck an understanding with the player’s entourage were untrue.

Ten Hag and the midfielder, who is from the Netherlands, have a “strong” rapport already, which might offer the Red Devils an advantage in the race to recruit him.

How is Sofyan Amrabat?

The Moroccan national team player created a name for himself at the 2022 World Cup, participating in all seven games as the African team made an incredible run to the semifinals before ultimately losing the third-place play-off against Croatia.

The central midfielder’s skills impressed Charlie Parker-Turner of the Daily Express, who praised him as a “unbelievable warrior” and claimed he was a contender for the Player of the Tournament award.

When compared to peers in his position playing in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, the maestro has a pass completion percentage per 90 that places him in the 95th percentile (according to FBref), but there are some concerns regarding the impact he has on most games.

The former Feyenoord player does not pose much of an offensive threat—he did not register a single goal for Fiorentina last season—and he also may not provide enough support on the defensive end, ranking only in the 33rd percentile for tackles and the 42nd for interceptions per 90.

Amrabat proved that he had a tremendous deal of talent during the World Cup, but Man United should have significant doubts about signing him this summer.

In addition to the fact that there are doubts about his abilities, Ten Hag should probably save the money to invest in bolstering other crucial positions, since a replacement for the out-of-contract David de Gea is still needed.
