According to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Manchester United will submit a formal bid for Inter Milan goalie Andre Onana in the upcoming hours.
Since David de Gea’s contract expires tomorrow, it is expected that the Red Devils will look to replace him during the current transfer window.
Their top choice to replace the Spaniard is Onana, and according to La Repubblica, the Red Devils will make a bid for the 27-year-old in “the next few hours.”
The Cameroonian has already spoken with United through his agent, and there is a verbal agreement in place over a long-term contract, it is further stated.
Currently, Inter places a 60 million euro value on their prized possession. By adding a number of bonuses, they believe the Red Devils will come close to the target.
Onana De Gea has been United’s starting custodian for the past 12 seasons, but the Spaniard might be on his way out after the recent contract saga. United is set to make a formal approach for De Gea.
The 32-year-old initially consented to a contract extension with a significant pay cut, but United later reneged on the deal to offer an even lower salary.
The most recent offer on the table won’t be accepted, according to De Gea. Right now, when his contract expires at the end of June, he could leave the team as a free agent.
In our opinion, United has disrespected the illustrious custodian, but now might be the time to call it quits. Between the sticks, the team needs an upgrade.
Over the past season, De Gea’s goalkeeping has fluctuated. Last year, he kept 25 clean sheets, but four of those were due to his mistakes, which led to goals.
With his backward distribution, he simultaneously gave off a vulnerable appearance. The Spanish player frequently gave the opposition cheap possession.
Compared to De Gea, Onana would be a fantastic improvement. One of the best goalkeepers at handling the ball, he frequently makes strong claims in the box.
In addition to being extremely mobile, the Cameroonian can work as a sweeper-keeper. Given that he spent four years playing for Ten Hag at Ajax, he should have no trouble adjusting to his playing style.
Onana is a no-brainer signing for the Red Devils, so they should do everything in their power to secure his services as soon as possible so that he can participate in the preseason tour.
