Mason Mount’s transfer to Manchester United is reportedly close to happening for £60 million, with a five-year contract worth £52 million also being agreed upon.
Mason Mount is joining Manchester United.
Mount, dubbed a “mad player” by Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand, appears to be the Red Devils’ top target to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad this summer.
The 24-year-old’s Chelsea contract is about to expire, but he could still leave for a significant transfer fee. The midfielder was rejected by Man United’s Premier League rivals after they made an initial £40 million offer for him earlier this month.
A revised £50 million offer from the Red Devils in recent days—which included a guaranteed £45 million fee plus $5 million in add-ons—was also turned down.
Mount, who Kylian Mbappe has referred to as a “superb player,” appears to be on the verge of a deal between the two clubs, according to current indications.
Jeremy Cross, The Daily Star’s Chief Sports Writer, claims that after additional negotiations, Man United and Chelsea are now nearing a £60 million agreement.
Old Trafford believes £60 million to be a fair price, and Mount has already agreed to a five-year contract worth about £200,000 per week, so the transfer is expected to go through and will cost a total of £112 million in fees and wages.
Ten Hag hopes to land his man, though, and needs the transfer for the English player to be finished in time for him to travel with the United team on their preseason tour of America the following month.
Who else might be available to Man United this summer?
This summer’s transfer rumours at Old Trafford have been plentiful, and it appears that the next few months could be busy ones for both the club and the market, with Mount possibly just the beginning of a wave of new arrivals.
Given the uncertainty surrounding David de Gea’s future, a new custodian might be required. A direct meeting was held with Andre Onana’s agent from Inter Milan, a goalie with whom Ten Hag had previously collaborated at Ajax.
A star attacker also seems to be on United’s agenda, with Harry Kane as a potential long-term target. A move to Old Trafford appeared unlikely for the Tottenham striker, who, like Mount, is entering the final year of his contract. According to reports, if Kane’s asking price were to drop from £100 million to £80 million, the Red Devils might reconsider coming back to the negotiating table.
Axel Disasi, a defender for AS Monaco, seems to be another player United is interested in signing in the near future. There may be a number of signings prior to the 2023–24 season as Manchester is believed to be in the lead to land the Frenchman’s services.
