Ten Hag told one signing can finally end Man Utd woes in two positions, but Erling Haaland warning issued

Jaap Stam, a former defender for Manchester United, has offered his opinion on the possibility of an Ajax star joining the Red Devils at Old Trafford, where two of Erik ten Hag’s most pressing issues would be resolved.

Since Ten Hag traded for them last summer, Manchester United has raided Ajax twice. They acquired the services of Argentine center-back Lisandro Martinez in late July. Sky Sports claims he cost Man Utd £56.7 million.

Then Martinez travelled to Manchester with Brazilian winger Antony. Antony’s five-year contract with Man Utd was announced on September 1. Goal claims that Antony cost Man Utd £85 million, making him their second-most expensive acquisition ever, just behind Paul Pogba.

The current Ajax trio of Brian Brobbey, Edson Alvarez, and Mohammed Kudus have also been linked to Manchester United. Ajax has informed Man Utd that they do not want to sell too many more of their best players in order to prevent the senior team from being completely depleted.

Jurrien Timber, a centre back for Ajax, has the potential to leave the Eredivise for the Premier League.

Last week, Timber gave a significant update regarding his future. He stated that due to “a lot of specific interest” in his services, his next step is “getting closer.”

Although Man Utd will be a serious threat, Liverpool are rumoured to be in the running for the 21-year-old. Ten Hag has a good working relationship with the defender from their time together at the Johan Cruyff Arena and might be able to persuade him to join Manchester United rather than Liverpool.

Recently, the exact cost of Timber was revealed to Man Utd and Liverpool. After receiving a €50 million (£44 million) offer, Ajax has decided to sell.

Stam, who made 127 appearances for Manchester United between 1998 and 2001, believes that his former team is the’most logical option’ for Timber and has issued a warning to Haaland as a potential signing.

Stam believes that Ten Hag would benefit from Timber being able to compete with Martinez and Raphael Varane for the starting right-back position as well as serve as backup and competition at center-half.

The 15-cap Netherlands international has been cautioned, though, that facing elite strikers like Erling Haaland in the Premier League will be a step up.

According to Stam in an interview with Dutch source AD (via Sport Witness), “the big advantage of United for Timber is that he already knows Ten Hag and vice versa.” Make no mistake: this is the Premier League, despite the trainer’s intentions being tailored to Timber. You cannot always be the stronger player there; you must engage in more competitive duels, especially with strikers like Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

Everyone who was with Lisandro Martinez was interested in that. He did it, it turns out. I simply miss a certain level of aggression—occasionally even a hint of meanness—in Timber’s play. Giving the opening blow before the actual duels, for instance, is an example of this. Martinez complies. However, it must already be in you before you can learn it.

Combinations and the likelihood of playing time must also be considered. Raphael Varane is prone to injuries, and Harry Maguire continues to perform poorly, so United could still use a [new central] defender.

“In England, I therefore think that United is the best choice. And Timber as a right-back is something I’d like to see more of. There are at United, where Wan-Bissaka with the ball and Dalot without it don’t quite persuade me yet.

If they are able to reach a transfer agreement with Ajax, Timber would jump at the chance to join Man Utd. By having a significant impact at the club after leaving Ajax, he would like to emulate Martinez.

Significant trophies would also be up for grabs for Timber. Man Utd won the Carabao Cup earlier this season, advanced to the FA Cup final, and is likely to earn a spot in the Champions League for the following season.
